Title: Why does your reaver crawl forward instead of shooting?
Post by: RJBTV on March 02, 2021, 07:51:53 am
Basically, all maps are divded into boxes like in the picture below. If the reaver is in box A and wants to shoot on a target in box B, it will crawl forward if the target's on a diagonal line. The reaver can only shoot on the target on box B if the reaver itself is touching or inside a box that connects to box B. However there are some cases where this doesn't apply but I don't know why.

BAD READER

what happens sometimes is that units freeze when they are currently in their attack animation and then are told to move or told to issue another attack command. theres a certain frame window during each units attack where issuing new commands will freeze the units. this is super easy to see with dragoons, they have a particularly long frame window for this bug to occur. youll get used to the timing eventually and this will happen to you less often. when it does happen, hit S or you can issue a move command opposite the direction they were attacking in, either will unfreeze the unit.

People say it’s a bug that was introduced in 1.16.1 and never fixed. I wish Blizzard takes a notice. Here’s the same report on the game forum

This was something that remastered aimed to fix, for some reason they didn't manage to. I believe the bug happens when the attack animation is about to begin but the target moves out of range.

Fastest way to fix it is to hit S then issue move command again.

So umm if a target is on a diagonal angle there are chances that a Reaver might just crawl forward but if its  target is on a vertical or horizontal path it will shoot properly ?
What i really wanna know is why and when do reavers fire scarabs that are duds, happens to me often that the scarabs blow up but nothing dies.

Scarab has to physically connect with the target. For example, if a pile of scv's unstack and are clipping into each other, and the scarab's target is in the middle of the pile, it won't be able to physically connect with the target scv and can't explode. The pathing for the scarab is trying to find a way around all these units blocking access, but it can't and then its timer runs out.

So lets say im being reaver dropped and i unstack my miners would you be aware of the percentage of the scarabs not blowing up properly? :)
Come to think of it i will try this out in a game hehe sounds risky.

All fastest space maps have this problem, vgt, ugl, scd, scz and scw maps.
The problem is on only spot #3  that in the yellow square enclosed with an orange brush, the reavers cannot attack the central base directly, if you give attack the reaver will move until it is outside the yellow square and attack the nexus, commander or hatcherie.

The orange filled circles are the reavers and the red circles cannot attack there.
obviously there are other places but I only focus on the chokes and central bases

Will it be possible to fix those errors that have been around for ancient age?
