Something pretty nerdy...
So there’s a lot of talk about the map being unfair... Well would this be possible?
If we set up a league where everyone pre-season is ranked. And we are put in to sort of divisions or tiers...
So like from tier one would be the top 10 players
Tier 2 top 20 and then tier 3 top 30 and beyond..
With that being said when a tier one player plays a tier two player he will earn less points and lose more points than if he played a player in his own division/tier . I Believe this will help with dodging AND bashing. Because we can set up the point system (which changes drastically) like this :
Tier 1 vs Tier 1 would be +75 -75
Tier 1 vs Tier 2 would be +50 -75
Tier 1 vs Tier 3 would be +25 -75
So this is where it helps with dodging... a player who would normally dodge a top player is more willing to play that player knowing that all he has to do is win 1 game to make up for 3 losses.. and this also makes it so that no one can really bash because if you’re playing players at a lower tier , you’re taking a bigger risk.
And also top players would have to win a LOT more games than you lose which would make it so that “bashing” isn’t really significant.
So for example.. let’s say Player A always dodges Player B
If Player A knows that all he has to win is 1 game out of every 4 to break even with player B then he might be more willing to play.. and with fastest we all know that all it takes is a Mid Zerg for a lower tier player to beat a higher tier player so it’s very likely that lower ranked players would be willing to player better players because they can continue practicing with a low risk to their league points.
Also with Divisions/Tiers it’s easier for players to play players of their own skill rank..
I think this will also help with activity because If we categorize players then it will make players wants to get better and try getting in to Tier one be respected as a good player.
Idk this is just something to talk about and maybe some of you have better ideas or can polish this one up.. something new would be pretty cool.. and we can always go back to the current model.
Also the tiers.. and a lot of things I mentioned are a lot more complex and we need to set up rules and stuff .. but this is just a start to get the discussion going
So my idea of how this will work is that we will have two different ranks one is our tier
Tier 1, Tier 2, etc and the other is our rank in the season
So like if I’m 3rd in the league it will show up in the standings as 3rd with my Points but it would also show that I’m a tier one player or something like that.. idk.. what do you guys think ? Too nerdy ? :)

plus momo would feel left out not qualifying in any tier.

i have no problem playing you, rvr like every1 else does on this game since day 1. You get p you get p so what, but sc fastest has always been rvr, Why do you think ur special? your just not at the level as the players who can play tvp or zvt. everyone knows this

the point system is already in place where higher ranks have to "4-1" much lower ranked players in order to go up points
people are always coming and going so its too much to keep track of ranked players. just seems to complicated and more work for sword.
i think people are realizing the game is declining in activity and that dodging seems to be less than it use to be in previous years. massing games against certain players does increase activity though, it just seems that gus has taken the role as the booster to higher level players.
the only thing i thought could be changed was that if mid T/Z vs P , mid Z vs T wins they get some bonus points, and P winning fewer points if they won.
Or have any t/z vs p and z vs t games ragardless of corner or mid to have more points won and less points won for the p.
Since it shows its the stats how these are everyones worst m/us and P being everyones best race
I really dont care for any change though, i like it how it is as long as it goes back to OG SC

This is a response to Tyga's original thread.
I like your idea, but here is my argument against it. Having different tiers and different structured point system would be great if we had a league of like 400+ players. Unfortunately we don't and I think putting that point system into place and having different tiers of players will only cause more dodging and less games. Sword has put this point system in place to encourage activity, which is what this community needs. Having someone placed in tier one, trying to play a tier three, I can just see that tier 3 player saying "play someone in your own tier, stop trying to noob bash". Or will be the other way around too where a tier three player is asking to play a tier one and a tier one will say "no you're too low and it's not worth the risk of losing points". I just don't think separating the levels of players is a great idea with how the league is currently played. As we all have a good idea who is considered top players, mid level players and noobs, I don't think visually separating it is a good idea. As everyone is way too sensitive these days. I think this would've been a great idea back in VGT and SCD days. I just don't think it makes much sense for the community we have today. Realistically there's maybe 6-8 players who should really be in tier one and then a ton of players in the mid level and then handful of players in the lower level.
I think some ideas for next season would be to bring the league back to original SC, as no one is a fan of broodwar. I know we wanted to try and attract new players by staying on BW with re-mastered, but it hasn't worked. We don't have a lot of players playing, in fact i'd argue that we have less than we did before re-mastered. Which is a horrible sign. Original SC has always been the number one league even going back to VGT days. SC > BW in games played and all the top players played original over BW. The people that played BW were generally the ones that couldn't place high in Original so they played BW. That went for both the 1v1 league and 2v2 league for VGT.
Another idea, as much as I hate it, is rewarding bonuses for games played and wins. As this isn't always fair to the people that don't have all the time in the world to play SC, but it does help with activity as people will want to achieve those bonus points. I am really against this as it encourages noob bashing and as I said really benefits the super active players, but after all activity is what we need at this point.
I also think hosting weekly tournaments is a great idea. The 2s tournament this Saturday brought a lot of activity to the channel and was fun. Congrats goes out to BaO for doing the tournament and looking to host a 1v1 tourney up coming as well. The tournaments don't have to be for money all the time. They can be for league points. Host a 1v1 tourney and the person that wins that tourney gets 300 league points, 2nd place gets 200 points and third place gets 100 points.

Tournament for league points seems like a great idea, we can increase the frequency of tourneys without shelling out $$.
Was there a reason the 2v2 tourney was Bo3 for all games except the finals? Either making it Bo5 for all or having double elimination would decrease the likelihood of bad M/U or spots happening twice in a row.

Yes tournaments are huge, the tournament hosted by BaO is what made me even think of making this thread..
Maybe tournaments can have like Gold, Silver, and Bronze trophies for the top 3 players of that tournament and they get trophies and they can turn in the trophies for points or resets or something... idk there’s a lot of nerdy things we can change that can make this league fun and make people wanna play... we’ve been at the same format for like 5+ years it would be cool to make some changes

Grrr I feel like we’re already separated so why not pre rank the obvious? And this will make players want to move in to higher tiers. And also make the top 10 play each other more. And it will make it harder to win seasons for ANY player. I feel like In this system “noobs” would get better and place higher in the standings if the points are adjusted accordingly.
In my opinion I should earn less points for beating momo and he should earn more points for beating me plain and simple. Therefore he would be more willing to play me and that increases activity; whilst also stopping pub bashing.

I like the idea of kon with respect to the weekly tournaments, increase the activity, reasonably and more than the bonus points, within this same page you must create a hall of fame session for all the winners, I think public recognition It's more rewarding, especially with the rivalry between the best players.

And to add on to what puppy said.. I think we need a few more admins to be active and help out sword(I’m down to be an admin but since I play I rather not be an admin). There’s a lot of people who don’t play league but like obsing or watching replays.. I feel like they would be the perfect admins.

I've helped out in the past and don't mind doing it again. I just hate the bm that comes with being an admin and a player as Tyga noted. SworD is currently running the show all by himself, and he's doing a great job. With some help from a few people things could maybe go further.

How do you feel about tiers? Are you more likely to play “top players” knowing that you will win more and lose less points? And yeah tournaments would be pretty cool except no ones signs up for them.
BaO just posted a 32-man 1v1 tourney paying 1st-4th and somehow we can’t get 32 players to sign up? This is clearly disappointing as we all know there’s at least 40 of us but for some reason no one wants for play for free money... it doesn’t make sense when there’s people complaining about activity but won’t do anything about it lol hopefully this is a start.

No one has said he cannot. BaO gaining access to provide UGL points as incentive, is a responsibility meant for an admin not a regular site user.

It seems like what you're describing is a standard ELO that doesn't reset between seasons.
But then you have the problem of motivating people to play a bunch of games each season.
Enter ELO decay.
But now I'm playing games just to avoid decay and I don't feel a sense of progress.
Enter fake rating system to inject the system with points that have no value for the sake of progress.
aaaaaaaaaand now we have sc2 MMR system :D

But we kind of already do this anyways.. in this system we won’t have the same top 5 players every season.. it’s a level playing field for everybody. I doubt it would happen though but we should make is so Mid Z earns more points and Protoss wins vs Mid z or mid t earn less points .

Why not start with eliminating mid spots altogether? I think the protoss superiority is strong enough that it'd still be P favored

Id prefer not to cause if both players are corner that’s an instant 30 min + game no matter the match up. And mid base is still winnable.. it’s not like it’s an automatic loss if you’re mid. I think adjusting the points would be best thing to try out.. but idk if its possible to even do that lol

Also shorter seasons and a more consistent (shorter) off season where people know the start date of the next season can increase activity.

When I was active and dominated scd and the first half of ugl you were just as active but hid as a "2s player" never challenged me in a season once cuz u were nobody. The game got inactive and I lost interest and all of a sudden you start playing 1s leagues when I'm not playing ?? Not to mention the season u dodged me to play hari 4x bonus matchups on the last day. Look how many games I trolled u last season playing at 100apm and doing random shit. You don't know how to scout or read a game without ur nerd friends cheating for u. Like u got caught and suspended for in the past.
There's the level Iv reached at this game then there's the level you/omni/kon are at. Good players but will never reach the level I was at. Archives and replays speak for themselves

One of the problems is he seems to only play at like early-mid morning/afternoon, when a lot of people are probably at work.

Yeah because after-work for us is work time in Korea. Probably weekends are best time to catch those guys

Lol at least Muve beat him once. I know he can own me easily I just think Sith has a poor sportsman ship and talks to much . Yeah he only plays his friends rvr because he cant beat any1 else in rvr. He wouldn't be in top 10 if he went rvr. That's all I'm saying people who plays all races has skills . I'm Glad Brain came along, I love watching his replays They're so fun to watch.
