News / Improved replay handling: winner detection
« on: March 06, 2021, 06:38:21 am »
Traditionally the upload system has taken it on faith that the person reporting has won the game, and has done zero validation on that front. The reason for this is because its not possible to detect with 100% certainty who actually won the game just from the replay.

To help reduce the number of cases of abuse with people falsely uploading their losses as though they were wins, there's a new system in place that validates actual victory, using a number of guesses and heuristics. It should be accurate in around 99.9% of cases; in other words, I estimate around 1 in 1000 games that you legitimately won, the system will reject due to believing you to have lost. In this case a support thread will need to be made to have the game added manually. On the other hand, it is now much more difficult to abuse the system by reporting losses, as the system will reject games that you haven't won

News / SSL certificate issue
« on: February 21, 2021, 11:53:13 am »
As of today it appears there's an issue with the SSL certificate owned by starcraftworld.net which is preventing some users from being able to browse the website. If anyone is getting an error stating the website is not trusted when trying to browse the site, this is the reason why. If you are here reading this post, then you are not affected by this issue.

It appears to be a problem on the part of the certificate providers. I've called support but their engineers are not available until Monday.

In any case, games played today that could not be reported due to this issue will be able to be reported when this issue is remediated, even after the 4 hour limit.

News / Season Tournament and the future of SCW
« on: September 17, 2019, 12:30:06 am »
As usual there will be a top 4 tournament for the winner of SCW13:

#1 vs Winner(#2 vs Winner(#3 vs #4))

Finals will be bo9, all other matches will be bo7.

After this season, I will be discontinuing SCW, due to lack of interest and activity. Some time in the future if there is real interest in running a season maybe we can give it a try, but right now unfortunately I don't think its there.

We had a good run; thirteen seasons of some of the most high-level play that FMP has seen in any league. Thanks to everyone who has kept this going, you know who you are. Its been an extraordinary experience running this show. I'll be throwing in an extra $75 for #3 spot in 1v1 this season to encourage this season to give us one more round of some decent games.

News / Top 4 Tournament for Winner of 1v1
« on: July 12, 2019, 06:30:03 am »
To help prevent abuse, there will be a top 4 tournament for the winner of 1v1 this season. The format will be

#1 vs Winner(#2 vs Winner(#3 vs #4))

to give an edge to players that ranked higher in the ladder. All matches will be bo7, except for the finals, which will be bo9.

Good luck.

News / Season 11 conclusion
« on: May 13, 2019, 01:36:18 pm »
I'm sure its not a surprise at this point that I would say the season didn't exactly go the way everyone had hoped. We had good activity, yes, but one of the lessons I learned was that a ladder system and prize pool don't mix well. Players being disqualified is not something anyone likes to see. And there was a lot of other questionable activity from nearly everyone in the top 10. But I don't blame the players; they responded to the money incentive which was the intent. I'm sorry that I didn't organize this better and/or listen to the calls to require a tournament from the very beginning as some had suggested. The last tournament didn't go well and I foolishly thought that having one again would only complicate things, but it turns out that nothing could have been more wrong.

In any case, its time to move on. In the future, any seasons with prize money will be required to have a tournament in some format.

Xtre-X is the winner of SCW11 and has been paid $500.

There will be a bit of a break until the next season. I will need some time to reflect and think how to run things better.

General Discussion / Season 11 Result
« on: May 13, 2019, 01:47:08 am »
Due to the close result, and a game from both parties that failed to be reported in time that would affect the outcome of the season, the integrity of every game will need to be verified before a winner is declared. The result will be announced within a couple of days

GanGstEr]ZerG. placed #3 and will be paid $200

Due to a determination that GoldSCV and J.H have been abusing the ladder with illegitimate games in order to boost up J.H., their games have been removed and they are not allowed to play against each other ever again.

Their games have been re-weighed to prevent significant inflation of the standings.

This is the second time this has happened (first time was two seasons ago). With so much prize money on the line, any foul play that might lead to an unfair result will not be tolerated. This would call for a suspension, but GoldSCV confessed to all of this, so they are allowed to play, but are disqualified from winning prize money for SCW11. If either or both finish in top 3, the same prize pool will go to the next-in-line in each case. Season winner status will still be awarded should either place first.

GoldSCV and J.H will be eligible to win prize money next season, if they choose to play fair.

Usually seasons start on weekends but with the timing of the tournament and everything else, SCW11 will start sometime during next week. The exact start date will probably be announced in a day or two. It will be a bit longer than usual (maybe 2-3 weeks more) and feature what I'm hoping to be the biggest prize pool yet seen. I'm going to donate $500 myself and hoping anyone who wants to help out will donate as well. Please PM me if you are willing to help out. Prize money will be distributed to #1, #2, and #3 for the 1v1 ladder (probably 50%, 30%, and 20% of the pool, respectively).

I will also be reaching out to some old players to see if they are interested in coming back to play for this season.

News / Top 4 tournament
« on: March 04, 2019, 03:33:29 am »
As announced at the start of the season, the top 4 will complete in a tournament for the 1v1 title and prize money. The higher ranks will have an advantage in the bracket as usual. All matches will be bo7 except for the finals, which will be bo9:

Play your games as soon as possible

Someone can probably make a prettier bracket (premier?)
