I posted the winrates on BW - I don't see how original starcraft makes this any better

Arguably TvP is SLIGHTLY easier - until the protoss makes carriers and your goliaths are useless (not that they were great before).

TvZ is already T favored in BW, worse in SC
Same with PvZ

If anything the lurker swarm makes the game MORE balanced - even though it can be annoying.

Corsairs make it easier to drop, and DTs make it easier to tech to storm drop ASAP without dying to a zerg/terran timing.

I thought fmp community has embraced imbalance and adapted to overcome the disadvantage. 
In the end, both players should have the same probability of getting certain race and position in rvr...the better player will prevail eventually.  Complaints on balance issue sound like excuses.
Both players r playing on equal grounds

I mean, if we just play rock paper scissors the "better player" will prevail eventually - but that doesn't necessarily make it a great game.

Also people picking protoss kinda mutes that argument, doesn't it?

Could try to make a  better map - could even limit to corner-only

But I'd imagine you would get a ton of pushback against that sort of thing. I once made a map (fastest emerald) to try to adjust some of those things (namely the huge side-base chokes) but some people didnt like it for that reason

So I spent some time taking a look at the first 1771 games played this season. For anyone interested, here are the results:

Games won:
PvT   364   66.91%
TvP   180   33.09%
PvZ   360   64.17%
ZvP   201   35.83%
TvZ   244   57.41%
ZvT   181   42.59%

PvP   201
TvT   23
ZvZ   17








Some conclusions that I think can be drawn here:
  • RvR into a mirror matchup is SUPER rare.  In the case of PvP I would postulate that the 201 PvP games played were from PvR or PvP games. No idea what percent of games start as PvR and end up PvP.
  • Protoss is heavily favored in all matchups (obv)
  • TvZ is T favored, but not by a huge amount

Note that this sample is heavily biased by individual players. A player with over 100 games would account for almost 6% of the total games.

First 300 games of the 2v2 ladder:

  • PP matchups heavily favor the PP team
